Chiropractic Care...Essential to my Success

I took it easy on the power cleans and focused on technique today. I am happy with the progress...I am looking forward to focusing on strength for a while and not doing any METCON workouts. I think in the long run it will be better for my GPP (General Physical Preparedness) because I am focusing on lifts I am weak at.

Today I had an adjustment by my Chiropractor Dr Paula Vanderburgh at Active Chiropractic in Ilderton. ART (Active Release Technique) has been a big reason why I continue to make gains and I am injury free. I went to Paula after a shoulder injury which stemmed from a problem in my hips and my one leg being shorter than the other. We have made big gains since then and my performance is always a lot better after each visit. If you are skeptical about chiropractors you probably haven't been to a good one. Eventually when you push the limits of your physical strength and conditioning something a problem will prop up because something is not in alignment. Not everyone is in perfect alignment and very few can go through life without getting something out of place. ART is not only great for fixing injuries but can also be used to help with DOMS (Delayed onset Muscle Syndrom) or just to increase performance. (I have seen the results with myself and my family) You can find out more about ART here. Paula has experience working with athletes, she spent time with the UWO varsity track team so she really know her stuff. If you want to book an appointment with Paula, or speak to her, you can reach her at the office 519 666 3993.

  1. I agree with Sean and have also had success with Chiropractic Care. I have not been in a while because it can get expensive but if you find a good Chiro it is worth it. My Chiropractor is Dr. Millar http://dbmillar.com/ ... a specialist in sports injuries. I injured my back after a 5x5 Snatch and his rehabilitation technique worked. He is similar to Sean's Chiropractor in that he uses Ultrasound Therapy and Electrical Muscle Stimulation. However, Dr Millar does not practice ART. He also used laser acupuncture on the muscles surrounding my spine.

This is from his website: He has experience with the treatment of National Canadian sports figures, having been selected to work at the 1999 Pan Am Games in Winnipeg. He has treated athletes from track and field, swimming, hockey, football, golf, basketball, volleyball, figure skating, gymnastics, triathlon, rowing, bobsleigh and downhill skiing.

  2. Alright, so obviously Dani and I have had a disagreement in chiropractors. If you have not experienced ART, you should give it a try. Chiropractors not practicing ART and gearing treatment towards athletes are missing out. "ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves." - http://www.activerelease.com/what_patients.asp

This post wasn't meant to be a "who has the better chiropractor" but emphasize how chiropractors can aid in performance.

  4. That is a very good insight! It’s good to know that chiropractic therapy has a great impact on you. But it would be best to consult a doctor before going to one. Anyway, it’s been years now, I hope you’re injury-free. But there’s no doubt about that since you have an uplifting attitude and a good trainer.

  5. There are different diagnostic methods that their skilled chiropractors use. It includes x-rays in order to determine your condition with special focus on your bone and spinal structure. Then using their spinal manipulation techniques, coupled with scientifically developed manual adjustments, they help relieve your pain and help your body heal itself naturally. 6. All I wanted is to live an injury-free life, but I can't help but suffer from body pains due to the several tasks that I have to do. I know there are other people who are in the same situation, and they're also looking for ways to avoid the painful experience. A regular consultation with a physical therapist and a chiropractor was of great help. They can guide you in certain exercises and workout routines that can relax your body before you do your work. :)

  7. When asking for consultation, it's best if the one you're visiting is a reliable one. Chiropractic treatment is a very complicated and sensitive procedure. Choosing the right one will ensure your recovery.
